Swimming either in a pool, stream, lake, or ocean can be dangerous to the health of your eyes. Water from most sources contains bacteria and viruses that can be difficult to kill by both contact lens care systems and by current anti-infective agents. Contact lenses are like little sponges that can absorb pathogens which if invade the cornea can be devastating. A good compromise is using a daily disposable contact lens which should be removed and discarded immediately after swimming.
